PELAGIC PARTNERS WITH ONEPEOPLE FUND AS PART OF THEIR COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING UNDERPRIVILEGED COMMUNITIES DURING COVID-19
[Singapore/Johannesburg], [June. 15, 2020] – Pelagic announced its support to the OnePeople Fund who aim to assist communities who do not have the means to feed their families during the lock down, with the authorities – at a national, provincial and city level – only being able to meet the needs of a limited amount of disadvantaged people.
“We at Pelagic feel that we have a role to play in delivering support to communities throughout this difficult time.” Said Thomas Baring, founder of Pelagic. As a representation of how serious we are about our responsibility associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, we are donating R1.00 for every tonne traded to the OnePeople Fund.”
The fund has one central directive: to feed as many South Africans in need as possible by providing them with maize.
“Our goal is to deliver 1 million portions of food into the townships per week, for next 2 months at least,” said the initiative’s representative. “We have set ourselves the goal of raising US$1 million to fund the purchase of the maize.”
The initiative was established to pool large amounts of funding in order to benefit from bulk pricing discounts and then to ensure that the maize is distributed to trustworthy, non-political, non-profit partners, who are geared for mass distribution.
